The schoolrooms started out as a small single room located above the stables in the early days of the church. As needs outgrew the provision the church adapted, moving the Sunday School to the lower rear of the original church, then into a custom built addition at the front that housed boys on the ground floor and girls on the upper level, and finally culminating in raising funds to erect the building that sits at right angles to the church.
It wasn't until the Summer of 1878 that the church finally decided that there was a requirement for a purpose built schoolroom. As reported in this article from the Northampton Mercury on 8 Jun 1878 (See the full page here), during the ministry of Rev William Tidd Matson, it was decided that the current school rooms, which had only been in place for around 60 years, were insufficient. Ironically, the meeting to decide this was held in the current boys school room at the front of the building. The school rooms were finally completed and opened in 1885.
